CASE STUDIES

M-Series proves to be perfect solution for remote off-grid wellsite power generation in extreme environment.

THE CHALLENGE

A Calgary-based private energy company with significant land position and growing production stream in British Columbia, Canada owns and operates a natural gas producing wellsite situated within a very remote and environmentally challenging location.

Due to the remote off-grid location it is uneconomical to bring utility (grid) power to site, however, successful operation of the wellsite depends upon providing reliable, uninterrupted, and continuous power generation for critical equipment and applications. Due to the northern Canada location, extreme weather and environmental conditions are also majors factors in power system design and implementation.

Power was required for systems including instrumentation, controls, exhaust fans and lighting with an average power consumption range of 300–500 watts.

In addition to system power requirements, larger power draws are expected intermittently, and the company required a solution that works well under varying load levels and with load following capabilities to effectively reduce fuel consumption at smaller loads.

THE SOLUTION

Global Power Technologies’ (GPT) M-Series line of power generators were the perfect solution.

M-Series generators are a reliable, low-maintenance and cost-effective system designed to work in extreme climates and conditions. M-Series generators produce up to 5kW of electricity and require only minimal annual maintenance, easily performed by on-site end-user technicians.

GPT’s M-Series was deployed to meet on-site power requirements, providing enough electricity to keep critical systems up-and-running 24/7. The system ran flawlessly throughout the 2021 Polar Vortex which saw temperatures drop as low as -36.3°C (-33.34°F) on site, February 9, 2021.

The end user chose GPT due to its proven track record of designing and engineering quality systems, superior customer service, and outstanding working relationship.
