The Canadian Women's International Network (CanWIN) and the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada recently organized a Canadian Women-Only Business Mission to Taiwan and Vietnam. Global Power Technologies was invited to join the mission with the objective of exploring new market opportunities for exporting methane emissions reduction and off-grid power generation technologies. For Laura Kennedy, CEO of Global Power Technologies, the journey offered much more than anticipated, providing valuable insights and experiences.
The mission brought together an inspiring group of female entrepreneurs, pushing boundaries and sparking imagination. Participants included women with ambitions to be listed on NASDAQ within five years, those prioritizing people over profit, and others who raised millions in funding or invented new technologies. Witnessing these achievements inspired many (including Laura herself!) to reassess their own goals and break through self-imposed limitations.
Canada's Trade Commissioner Service emerged as a vital resource for entrepreneurs seeking export opportunities or foreign suppliers. With in-country teams possessing extensive industry knowledge, reputable contacts, and an understanding of business norms and cultural practices, they ensure effective foreign business trips. Notably, Canada is among the few countries that offer these services to local companies at no charge, making it an invaluable resource.
Exploring new markets revealed fresh use cases for products, advancing energy transition opportunities beyond our traditional applications. Conversations about common methane emissions issues in different regions led to product evaluations for a burgeoning market. Such travel and meetings outside usual industry circles opened minds to new opportunities, proving to be a worthwhile endeavour.
Despite extensive travel for business meetings, Laura described the camaraderie and enjoyment of being with 20 other female entrepreneurs were unparalleled. The women supported each other, celebrated successes, and shared laughter, dancing, and singing after productive days of symposiums, networking, and B2B meetings.
