CEO Profile: Laura Kennedy in Daily Oil Bulletin

Global Power Technologies Jun 12, 2024 3:57:14 PM
Laura Kennedy was featured in a CEO profile in the Daily Oil Bulletin this month. In the article, Laura discusses the shift in the company's focus towards creating products that help reduce emissions and methane since acquiring it in 2019. Global Power Technologies' thermal electric generators (TEGs) are known for their reliability and low maintenance and are now used in solar hybrid systems to lower emissions and increase dependability. The MX Primegen Power Generators and EZ Air Instrument Air systems are the company's latest innovations aimed at reducing methane emissions, with the MX providing up to 6kW of power for high-demand equipment and the EZ Air abating over 7,000 tCO2e/year.

“One of the big drivers we believe for Alberta is to focus on the economic feasibility of the regulations and not just the technical feasibility of the regulation” - Laura Kennedy

Laura predicts another step change towards methane abatement in Canada when new federal regulations are released later this year, emphasizing the need for economically feasible solutions alongside technical ones. She points out that while Canada is progressing well with initiatives like reducing pneumatic venting, meeting the first draft of the proposed federal targets remains challenging. Small companies, including Global Power Technologies, are working to find cost-effective methods for methane reduction that can compete in the market.

Laura stressed the urgency for federal and provincial governments in Canada, as well as state governments in the U.S., to clarify regulations related to methane abatement. This clarity will drive industry action and prevent wasteful spending in areas that may not align with future requirements. She also highlights the importance of early action from suppliers to meet the demand for energy transition technologies by 2030, advocating for incentives to encourage first movers and support the supply chain.
